My animal is the Great white shark. The Great white sharks common name known to people is the Great white shark. Their scientific name is the Carcharodon carcharias. I chose sharks (the great white) because they have to face everything head on (They literally cant go backwards)

A great white shark is a Heterotroph. They are a heterotroph because they are in the class of carnivores and consume: other sharks, sea lions, seals, and sting rays, etc. (https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/fish/facts/great-white-shark)

The Great white shark is a Quarternary Consumer. They are in this class because they are at the top of their respective food chain. Great whites live in almost all costal waters from the United States to Chile(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_white_shark ) Because it is the ocean there isn’t much to describe. In addition to this sharks travel from place to place with no home therefore they would be considered as nomads

The Great white shark live in ocean waters that range from the temperature 54 degrees Fahrenheit to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The majority of great whites found are near South Africa Australia/New Zealand, the North Atlantic Ocean , and Northeastern Pacific Ocean. (https://usa.oceana.org/where-are-great-white-sharks)

The Great white shark has a mutualistic relationship with the remora fish. They also have a commensal relationship with the great white shark. The spur dogfish is a parasite to the Great white shark and the majority of all sharks (the spur dogfish is a parasite to the Great white shark.)

Great white sharks eat Seals, sea lions, and small fish in some cases. The Great white on some very small occasions gets eaten by Killer whales. Great whites do not eat plants because they are carnivores just like many other sharks

The Great white shark is on the 5th trophic level because they are the top of their food chain. If the Great white sharks disappear all the lower level organisms like sea lions would overpopulate and eat all the fish. This would cause the ecosystem to fall apart and all organisms would end up dying

Great white Sharks are k strategists because there children have slow growth, delayed maturation, and long gestation Great whites also have few young. In addition Great white sharks have 7-9 children and have live births

There are currently 3,500 great white sharks left in the world. Great white sharks are endangered. Great white sharks have been assigned this status because there are slightly over 3000 of them in the ocean currently

According to https://study.com/academy/lesson/why-is-the-great-white-shark-endangered-lesson-for-kids.html there are a multitude of reasons for the Great white shark populations being so low. These reasons are By-catch, illegal fishing, pollution. Things like illegal fishing so people can have shark stew are causing the Great White population to dwindle down. When you get something like a fin from a shark or fish this causes them to lose a vital part of their body and since they can’t regenerate body parts(with the exception of their teeth) they just end up dying

A way we can help Great white sharks regrow their population is stop overfishing. Not only are Great whites losing numbers exponentially it fish in general. We are abusing the ocean’s resources to the point where we are killing stuff that can’t come back. The only thing we can do to help Great White Sharks is to leave them alone for a while. If we stop exhausting our resources like we did during the Covid pandemic people will be surprised on how much better everything will get.

As a steward of the Earth it is our duty to conserve the animals God gave us. We can’t control everything like when a animal goes extinct to natural causes but things like cutting down too many trees and overfishing or pollution, we can control that stuff. And I brought you into a plentiful land to enjoy its fruits and its good things. (Jeremiah 2:7) But when you came in, you defiled my land and made my heritage an abomination. God already knew we would do stuff like this but what he intended for to do was: (Genesis 1:28) And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
