How can college athletes gain revenue? Currently with the new rule change, college (ncaa) athletes are now only allowed to be paid through endorsements deals, their own personal merchandise, and make money off of their social presence.

Hanna and Haley Cavinder

Theses two sisters who attend Fresno state and currently play basketball, immediately after the rule change became spokes people/persons for boost mobile and launched a billboard in Times Square. They were able to arrange the deal using icon source.

Bo Nix

After the rule change Bo nix became sponsored by Milo’s sweet tea. Bo nix is a the starting Quarterback for the Auburn tigers.

Shaun Shivers

Another member of of the Auburn college football program also gained an endorsement deal. His name was Shaun shivers and he got a endorsement deal with yoke. Yoke is a platform that allows fans to play video games with and against athletes.

Some more examples include Marshall Football player Will Ulmer (a guitarist that played under the name “Lucky Bill” until the rule change). Dontaie Allen a Kentucky Basketball player (Began releasing his own merchandise). Antwan Owens a Jackson state football player (signed a deal with 3 kings grooming, a black family owned hair product business).

The NCAA still does not allow colleges and universities to pay athletes like professional sports leagues pay their players—with salaries and benefits—but the new changes will allow college athletes to solicit endorsement deals, sell their own merchandise, and make money off of their social media accounts.

The 2019 men’s tournament, the NCAA said, generated $917.8 million in revenue, and $864.6 million in net income.

In the NBA, there is no prize money awarded to the team that wins the championship. There is, however, a pool of $15 million – funded by playoff gate receipts – that is distributed to teams as they advance through the playoffs. Each team can choose to divide the playoff dollars however they wish.

The 15 million dollar pool that the NBA distributes does not include salaries, but it does give a mark for how much money the ncaa makes off of only the mens ncaa tournament. This means that they are making more in revenue and get to keep more money because it is not allocated to players. That’s more of a reason for college athletes to be paid.
